If you want driving performance, the Lexus ES 350 is a good choice. It was redesigned for the 2019 model to make it stand out. The biggest change is its engine, a 3.5L V-6 engine that produces up to 302 hp and 267 pound-feet of torque. The suspension and aerodynamics are adjusted to make it more agile and fun to drive.

The E-Class delivers on performance with a light and agile feel thanks to a variety of suspension options. There is even an optional air suspension system for an improved ride feel. It also has a fast and efficient nine-speed transmission.

The BMW 5 Series also has powerful engine options. It comes with a 4.4L V-8 with an output of more than 500 hp. That is considerably higher than the Lexus ES 350, but comes with significant fuel and weight costs as well. The Lexus ES 350, by comparison, can do more with its smaller engine.

Fuel Economy

The 5 Series takes the lead in fuel economy. There is a plug-in hybrid version that improves fuel efficiency and performance. This can help offset the consumption of the large V-8 engine that is standard in the 5 Series. For many, the range of the electric-only system is enough to offset everyday fuel costs.

Luxury and Convenience

All three options are strong on luxury features, although they approach style in different ways. Depending on your needs, you can get the E-Class in a wagon, coupe, sedan, or convertible configuration. The cabin interior is top-notch and exactly what you would expect from a leading luxury car manufacturer. There are plenty of feature options to choose from as well to make it your own.

The BMW 5 Series stands out with the new iDrive infotainment system. It is more intuitive and easier to give you better control over all of your features. Plus, many of its features are voice-activated to make them safer to use while driving. On the inside, the 5 Series gives you performance customization options. You can easily switch between drive modes, which will adjust your performance and the instrument display style.

Which One is Right For You?

The biggest differences between all of the models are in their performance and styling. Each option provides a level of performance that is uniquely different from the others. The BMW feels much more interactive given its advanced infotainment system, while the Mercedes-Benz E-Class looks like a stylish and recognizable luxury car in every way.
